How AvaCoup Tests Coupon Codes

What "Tested" means on our codes, what we leave out on purpose, and what to do when a code stops working.

By Published

Every code on AvaCoup carries one of two lines: "✓ Tested" with a date, or "Added" with a date. This page explains the difference, and the few things we refuse to put on a coupon page.

What "Tested" means

A "Tested" date means someone at AvaCoup did this on the store's own website:

  1. Put a product in the cart.
  2. Entered the code at checkout.
  3. Checked that the discount came off the order total.

The date is the day of that check. We don't always go on to pay for the order: the test is whether the store's checkout accepts the code.

Example. On September 11, 2026 we tried our Fire Sale Boxes code (it ends in 741) at checkout on two items: a mystery box, and an item that was already on sale. The 5% discount came off both. That is why its ticket says "✓ Tested September 11, 2026" and why its terms say it works on sale items.

What "Added" means

"Added" is simply the day the code went on the site. It hasn't been through the checkout test yet, and we would rather say so than call it "verified".

When we re-check a code and it still works, its date moves forward. When it stops working, we take it down.

What "Exclusive" means

Codes marked Exclusive were issued to AvaCoup by the store itself. They are not public codes copied from another coupon site.

What we leave out on purpose

  • "Used 740 times today." We don't measure how many people use a code, so we don't show a number.
  • Countdown timers. A code only gets an expiry date on AvaCoup when the store gives one. If the store hasn't said, the ticket reads "No expiry date listed".

What the "Get code" button does

Each ticket shows the last three characters of its code, so you can tell codes apart. Get code opens the store in a new tab through our affiliate link, and at the same moment shows the whole code on AvaCoup and copies it for you. Paste it at the store's checkout.

If you buy, the store may pay AvaCoup a commission. That is how the site pays for itself, and it's why the full code appears once you've gone through our link. You pay the same price either way.

Reviews follow the same rule

Every review carries one of two labels:

  • Buyer's guide: based on research into the store's own pages, prices and policies. No star rating.
  • Hands-on review: we bought and used the product ourselves. Only these get a star rating.

When a code doesn't work

Stores change and end codes without telling us. If a code fails for you, email contact@avacoup.com with the store name and the date you tried it. We'll test it again and update or remove it.

AvaCoup is reader-supported. If you buy through a link on this page, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
